Try drying your hair with a white t-shirt. Towels can pull and cause breakage.

Protect Your Hair At Night

Especially for DRY HAIR. If you sleep alone it is best to cover or wrap your hair before you go to sleep. If you do not sleep alone then try to find a nice scarf to put over your hair wrap. The more you can get away with your hair not being out while you sleep the better.

If you must sleep with your hair out, use a satin pillow case.

Protect Your Hair During The Day

Especially for DRY HAIR. Your hair can be damaged from your clothes, chairs, and the weather - all of which remove moisture, create tangles, and cause split ends. Hair that touches your shoulders is the most susceptible to breakage. Wear a nice up-do, bun, twists or braids if your lifestyle permits.

Watch what you are leaning your head against. I keep a silk shirt draped on my fabric office chair for protection.

The goals are low manipulation and protection.

If you do wear it fully out, keep it moisturized.

Minimal Heat

Especially for DRY HAIR. No heat is the best. Rollersets using a hooded or soft bonnet hair dryer are not too bad. Be very, very careful when using hand blow dryers, curling irons and flat irons.

Always use a heat protectant.

Moisture / Protein Balance

Hair with the optimal Moisture / Protein Balance is able to stretch and return to its normal length without breaking.

Hair with the right amount of Moisture (water) will maintain its suppleness and elasticity. If your hair is dry, hard and brittle when dry, then you may need more moisture.

Hair with the right amount of Protein is strong and has the structure to fight breakage. Heat styling, relaxers, coloring, and other chemical treatments along with the environment can break down the protein bonds within the hair, causing it to become weak. In addition, if your hair is limp and soggy when wet, then you may need more protein.

Choosing the correct Protein Conditioner is probably the most challenging part of your regimen. In general there are 3 types of Protein Conditioners – light, medium and heavy.

Discuss with your Hair Care Professional the ideal protein conditioner to use, if any, for your hair.

Drinking Water

Drinking water keeps your hair hydrated from the inside out. The roots of your hair are the only means by which water is supplied from body to hair. If your hair is deficient in required water levels to maintain cell health, blood circulation and reproduction, your roots will eventually become brittle, dry, and rough. It is possible that they may stop growing at your normal rate. Keeping your body well hydrated will help with the proper growth and strength of your hair.
